Drama Studies

"Dramatic Arts develops the whole person and helps each learner realise her potential as a dynamic member of society."

Developing confident and expressive individuals

In Grade 8 and Grade 9, Drama is part of the Arts and Culture Learning Area. We are fortunate to have specialist teachers for all the classes. The main focus in these years is on developing communication skills. Dramatic Arts is offered in the FET phase for Grades 10-12.

The course allows learners to explore cultural history through studying performance and plays that reflect and challenge the values of society. In their practical component, the learners develop and become sensitive and effective members of a group, and confident and expressive individual performers.

A number of facilities are available to the Drama Department. These include a well-equipped hall; the McDowall Centre; and a Drama Room. The McDowall Centre is the venue for the annual performances put on by each grade.
