"We have received awards and outside funding for consistently producing excellent results"

A high performance learning area
Girls’ High School has been selected as a Dinaledi School. The Dinaledi Schools are those that have been identified as fostering Mathematics and Physical Science for girls.
Special achievements:
In 2007 we were awarded R100 000 for our excellent achievement in Mathematics. This money was used to purchase three interactive ‘smart boards’.
In 2008 and in 2009 we were given R420 000 by the Epoch Trust to enable us to improve, still further, the standard of Mathematics in the school. The money has been used to install interactive boards in the Mathematics classrooms and to finance the running of a tutorial system after school hours. The tutorial system is primarily aimed at building a sound mathematical foundation for girls in Grades 8, 9 and 10. We have been promised funding by the Epoch Trust for 2010.
WORLD MATHS DAY (1 March 2011)
Our top Grade 12 Maths learners, together with the top Grade 12 Maths learners from Maritzburg College enjoyed a maths dinner quiz at Girls' High. Thank you to Southgate Spar, First Technology and Telkom for donating prizes.
Our Grade 8 and 9 learners had much fun competing against learners from other countries via the Internet and took part in a maths quiz during their maths lessons.
Cami Maths
The school has acquired the Cami Maths Programme. 35 Computers are available each afternoon for learners to practise what they have learnt in class. Two teachers are on duty to help learners with any mathematical problems. We find that regular practise and attendance helps to improve Maths marks considerably.
Advanced Program Mathematics
We are now offering lessons in Advanced Mathematics. These lessons are after school. Our aim is to extend and help the more able learners to adapt to Varsity Mathematics more easily. Girls sign up for a module and write an exam at the end. Successful candidates are given a certificate showing that they have coped adequately with the topic.
At present we are doing various basic preparatory lessons. The modules we will cover are: Differentiation, Integration, Matrices, Boolean Algebra, Vectors and Statistics.
Our programme was decided upon on consultation with Deborah Ducasse (MSc Applied Mathematics) from UKZN (PMB campus). She is kindly helping us with our lessons.
