About GHS

Grade 8 Admissions

The final deadline for the submission of applications is normally about the middle of March.

The process is as follows:

  1. On completion of a short form available at the school or submission of a letter providing contact details, the parent will be given a set of Application Forms and instructions for their completion. (Where possible, it is advisable to collect these forms direct from the school’s Admissions’ Secretary in order to avoid problems with postage.)
  2. An Open Day is organised every year in early February and advertised in the press and at many local primary schools. This is an ideal opportunity to see GHS and to collect the necessary forms.
  3. It is essential that the forms are completed in full and the necessary documents submitted with them. Incomplete forms cannot be processed.

N.B. We always have far more applicants than we can accommodate and so it is advisable to apply to at least one other school.

Grade 8 Scholarships

Should your daughter wish to apply for an academic or sporting scholarship, these forms are available from the Admissions’ Secretary. These scholarships are based on a learner’s past school record and, in the case of academic scholarships, a test which takes place shortly after the closing date for admissions.

Applications for Grades 9 – 12

Should you wish your daughter to be admitted to the school during the academic year, a letter of request and a copy of your daughter’s latest two reports should be sent to the Admissions’ Secretary. Should there be a vacancy and if the subject package can be met, your daughter will be invited for an interview. Applications for the following year will not be processed until late in the year, unless there is definitely a place in the grade.

Transfers

In the case of unexpected relocation to Pietermaritzburg, an application will be considered, depending on its merits and the availability of places.
