Catering for the Needs of Each Individual

Learner Support
The Principal takes the ultimate responsibility for the girls and she manages this by delegating learner support to the staff members in a variety of ways. The Deputy Principals are in overall charge of Grades 8 and 9 and Grades 10, 11 and 12 respectively. In addition, each grade is under the care of a Grade Head who is a member of the School Management Team. Each grade is divided into classes with Class Teachers who take an interest in the individuals in their class. The Class Teachers are assisted by Class Prefects who work with their classes on various activities, including fund-raising for charity or school projects.
The Learner Support Centre aims to assist learners in all aspects of their school and personal life. All learners attend life orientation classes and have access to trained counsellors who are able to assist them with personal and school issues. The Learner Support Centre also has fifty Peer Counsellors. Peer Counsellors are elected from Grade 12 learners who have successfully completed an interpersonal skills course, which qualifies them to stand for election. These girls are then allocated to junior classes and offer them support and encouragement. They also run a system of Peer Tutoring to assist girls with their school work.
The Representative Council of Learners (RCL) consists of elected representatives from each grade. The members of that body have time set aside in the school calendar to visit class groups, and the matters raised by the girls are discussed at RCL meetings. Two senior RCL members are elected to serve on the Governing Body and put forward suggestions, raised by the school body, at the monthly meetings.
The Prefects are elected and assist in the running of the school. They are led by a Head Prefect and her two Deputies. The Boarder Head and her two Deputies make up the ‘Top Six’. A prefect will either be a House Captain or a Class Prefect. All the prefects ensure that life runs smoothly and comfortably for the girls. Other areas in which the girls serve the school are as Monitors in the Library or Refectory.
